Breast Cancer Hormone Connection
Did you know that MOST breast cancer tumors are known
as estrogen and progesterone-positive? This means the hormones literally “feed” these
tumors to grow bigger and more aggressive.
Did you know that a significant percentage of those hormone-positive cancers
are caused by combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT)?
And that medical science indicates that HRT (regardless of who manufactured it)
probably caused an EXTRA 200,000-PLUS breast cancers just in America over the
last two decades? Some would call this a national tragedy.
Or that the rates of breast cancer PLUMMETED once the Women’s Health Initiative
study caused most doctors to quit prescribing HRT?
Based on revelations such as these, a Reno, Nevada jury this month awarded $134
million in compensatory and punitive damages to three Nevada women whose breast
cancers were found to be caused by the combined hormone therapy products manufactured
by the drug giant Wyeth.
The jury awarded $34 million in compensatory damages for Arlene Rowatt, 67 of
Incline Village, NV. Jeraldine Scofield, 75 of Fallon, NV, and Pamela Forrester,
64 of Yerington, NV. It later added $99 million in punitive damages, resulting
in the largest personal injury judgment in the history of Nevada, and the largest
judgment against Wyeth in a long string of hormone replacement cases.
All three women began taking the Wyeth drug Premarin (estrogen), as well as a
related drug Progestin, over ten years ago. They later switched to Prempro, a
Wyeth product that combined Premarin and Progesterone in the same pill. They
stopped taking the drugs once their breast cancers were diagnosed. Mrs. Scofield
and Ms. Rowatt both required mastectomies to remove their breasts.
More than 5,500 cases involving hormone replacement drugs and cancer victims
are pending throughout the nation.
The Reno jury found that Wyeth provided inadequate warnings about the drugs’ breast
cancer risk and that the drugs they took for years were the cause of their breast
cancer. The jury also found Wyeth guilty of fraudulently concealing their drug’s
dangers
