Geoffrey White maintains an active litigation and settlement practice, with over 26 years of experience handling personal injury, products liability and medical malpractice cases. He has effectively managed, settled and tried cases of all shapes and sizes. He has numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements to his credit, including cases tried by him alone as well as part of a trial team, with Mr. White designated by the Court as lead trial counsel. Mr. White has also successfully defended his clients' verdicts against the losing defendants' appeals to the Nevada Supreme Court. See, e.g., Hall v. Hogle, 112 Nev. 599, 916 P.2d 814 (1996); Mahlum v. Dow Chemical, 114 Nev. 1468, 970 P.2d 98 (1998).
Mr. White combines his strong sense of moral outrage against oppressive corporate conduct with his trial skills to achieve remarkable results for his clients. When the "bankrupt" $5 Billion dollar Dow Corning Corporation tried to convince a Michigan Bankruptcy Judge to protect its decidedly non-bankrupt parent company - - the $25 Billion dollar Dow Chemical Company - - from breast implant lawsuits filed by Nevadans, Mr. White went to work to stop this injustice. Working hand in hand with his brother, bankruptcy lawyer John White, Jr., against two of the world's largest corporations and their teams of lawyers, Mr. White and his brother convinced the Judge to allow their Nevada clients to pursue their lawsuits against Dow Chemical. The matter was subsequently resolved by settlement.
Acting as sole trial counsel, Mr. White achieved the first ever medical malpractice verdict in a rural Nevada county (outside of the Reno and Las Vegas areas), a $2.9 Million dollar award. This was also the first personal injury verdict in Elko County in excess of $1 Million. Mr. White was also part of the trial team that successfully tried the Mahlum v. Dow Chemical case to a $14.2 Million dollar verdict. He has tried other "high profile" cases to verdict, including one which established a landlord's tort liability for allowing a tenant to harbor a vicious dog, which later attacked a child. Wright v. Schum, 105 Nev. 611, 781 P.2d 1142 (1989).
Mr. White is known for his ability and willingness to try complex and controversial cases, to fight to the finish for causes he believes in, and to do whatever is necessary to meet his opposition head on. His dedication to his clients has enabled him, with his fellow attorneys' and his staff's able assistance and backing, to successfully resolve most of his clients' cases by way of generous settlements. These include personal injury, medical malpractice and products liability cases.
Mr. White is well respected by Nevada Judges and Justices before whom he has practiced for his hard work, tenacity and competence, both in the Courtroom and at the Appellate level. He has written and published several articles (see below) and is a frequent guest speaker.
Mr. White is associated with, and is proud to work closely with, other nationally prominent and well respected trial lawyers and their law firms in prosecuting cases against large corporations whose products seriously injure consumers in Nevada and elsewhere. He brings this additional legal talent and "firepower" to the table and continues to have great success in resolving "mass tort" cases involving products such as defective drugs (Fen-Phen, Hormone Replacement Therapy, Baycol, L-tryptophan, and other prescription and non-prescription drugs), defective medical products (surgical instruments, implanted medical devices, hip and knee prostheses, breast implants, etc.), as well as other defective products.
